The Sherlock Holmes Society 1934-38

Kate Brombley's PhD thesis looks at the fan culture surrounding Sherlock Holmes from his first appearance in The Strand Magazine in the 1890s to the death of Conan Doyle in 1930.

It was not until 1934 that there was an official British or American Society established.

Using the text from a talk by Richard Lancelyn Green and an article in The Sherlock Holmes Journal (Vol 22, No 1), Kate explores the history of The Sherlock Holmes Society, including details of what took place at the meetings, who its members were and speculation as to the reasons for it ending.
